Antiqued phrenology head bookends
This pair of unusual head bookends make for an eye catching gift, perfect on a shelf in the living room or study.
Each end is half a head, the 2 halves making a single head.
Lorenzo Niles Fowler was a real character from New York, who from the 1840s began reading heads and starting a publishing industry that churned out vast quantities of phrenological periodicals, pamphlets and book.
For thirty years I have studied crania and living heads from all parts of the World and have found in every instance that there is a perfect crresponence between the conformation of the healthy skull of an individual and his known characteristics.
To make my observations available I have prepared a bust of superior form and marked the divisions of the organs in accordance with my researches and experience.

This item is a slightly distressed ceramic. During the manufacturing process slight imperfections have been deliberately created to give the item an older more 'antique' look than it would have if it had been made to be perfect.
This distressed finish is not to be regarded as a fault.
